LEXINGTON, Ky. — A former West Virginia University basketball player has been arrested by the FBI in a fraud investigation.
Kerr Kriisa, 25, of Estonia, spent the 2023-24 season with the Mountaineers. He was arrested in connection to a multi-year, multi-million dollar fraud scheme, per Jack Pilgrim of Kentucky Sports Radio.
The alleged fraud dates back to Kriisa’s year in Morgantown several seasons ago.
Kriisa is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center in Lexington, Ky., according to WKYT. Kriisa will be extradited back to West Virginia. A court appearance is scheduled for next week.
Kriisa began his career at the University of Arizona, playing three seasons there. After one year in Morgantown, Kriisa transferred to the University of Kentucky. Kriisa wrapped up his college career with a season at Cincinnati in 2025-26, facing the Mountaineers twice.
Kriisa recently signed with an Estonian professional team and was reportedly set to participate in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with the Kentucky alumni team, La Familia, this summer. Kriisa was removed from the La Familia roster following his arrest.
