MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Criminal charges against a fired Ruby Memorial Hospital doctor will be heading straight to a Monongalia County grand jury after he waived his preliminary hearing in magistrate court that was scheduled to take place Monday morning.
Lance Parks, who is currently free on bond, was charged after police allege he planted two recording devices in a pair of bathrooms at Ruby.
Parks faces multiple misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy and a felony count of exhibiting and distributing computer-generated child pornography.
Hospital employees found a digital recording device concealed beneath a sink inside a staff restroom on June 26. The employees immediately called police and the device was turned over to investigators.
The Monongalia County prosecutor said detectives used information from the device to determine it was Parks who put it there. The investigation also revealed the device contained video footage depicting eight hospital employees who had been unknowingly recorded while partially nude.
While responding to a clogged pipe at the hospital a few days later, employees discovered a second recording device in a toilet located in a non-public restroom.
The second device was also immediately given to detectives.
Parks was terminated from his position. He waived the preliminary hearing this past Friday.
