West Virginia women’s basketball will return to the sight of one of its more memorable wins in program history.
For the second straight season, the Mountaineers will take part in The Greenbrier Tip-Off and face Northwestern inside Colonial Hall on Friday, November 13.
Tip time and a television designation for the Mountaineers’ clash with the Wildcats will be determined in the future.
The contest will be played nearly one year to the day of West Virginia’s improbable 57-49 win over nationally-ranked Duke at the same venue, a contest in which the Mountaineers played the entirety of the second half with five players due to five ejections.
“We’re honored to play in the Greenbrier Tip-Off for the second straight season and to face a quality opponent like Northwestern,” West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg said. “It’s a tremendous early-season opportunity for our program. Representing West Virginia at such a historic venue, in front of our fans in the southern part of the state, means a lot to our program. Our group is excited and ready to embrace the challenge.”
West Virginia finished 28-7 last season and won the Big 12 Tournament as well as one game in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in as many seasons under Kellogg.
The Mountaineers have only two holdovers from that team, including guard Gia Cooke, who led the squad in scoring.
Northwestern has been a bottom feeder in the Big Ten Conference the last four seasons and finished 8-21 with 11 consecutive losses to end its 2025-26 campaign.
The Wildcats last won double-digit games in 2021-22 when they finished 17-12.
Northwestern will play a second game as part of The Greenbrier Tip-Off on Nov. 14 against Appalachian State.
Earlier this month, The Greenbrier Tip-Off announced a scheduled contest in men’s basketball between Xavier and Mississippi State for Nov. 13.
Colonial Hall, located inside The Greenbrier Resort, has a seating capacity of 1,200 and offers a unique and intimate viewing experience.
