Preston County man arrested for allegedly stealing gasoline

TERRA ALTA, W.Va. — A Preston County man has been charged after troopers from the West Virginia State Police say he drilled into gas tanks to steal fuel and damaged vehicles in the process.

A victim in the Terra Alta reported they had caught someone stealing gas from two of their vehicles parked at the Ball Auction property on East State Avenue on July 21.

William Greene, 23, has been accused of causing nearly $5,000 in damage to the vehicles and has been charged with destruction of property.

Troopers said surveillance video from the business shows Greene stealing the fuel from the vehicles.

Greene is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
