Clay County man wanted in triple stabbing found in dumpster, arrested

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — A Clay County man wanted for allegedly stabbing three people last week has been arrested.

Kelcey Nicholas

Kanawha County authorities had been searching for Kelcey Nicholas, 42, of Clay County, ever since last Wednesday. Deputies found three people — two women and one man — with stab wounds in the 2600 block of Dutch Ridge Road. Deputies said Nicholas had fled the scene after stabbing the three victims.

According to deputies, they learned the victims and Nicholas were in a pickup truck when the incident began. Nicholas reportedly began choking one of the victims, his girlfriend. When the other man in the truck attempted to intervene, Nicholas allegedly stabbed him, his girlfriend, and the second woman.

Nearly a week later, a woman opening a dumpster in the Dutch Ridge Road area of Clendenin in Kanawha County found Nicholas hiding inside. Deputies said Nicholas took off into the nearby woods. The U.S. Marshals Service Cuffed Task Force assisted the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office in the manhunt for Nicholas.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Nicholas was found by use of a drone’s thermal imaging technology.

Nicholas was brought into custody and arraigned Tuesday evening. He’s charged with three counts of malicious wounding.
