Virginia man killed in single-vehicle crash in Hampshire County

CAPON BRIDGE, W.Va. — A Virginia man is dead after a single-car crash in Hampshire County.

The Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office said Lary Cave Jr., 55, of Cross Junction, Va., died at the crash on U.S. Route 50 Tuesday afternoon near the Virginia/West Virginia border. He was the lone person in his car.

According to deputies, Cave was driving west and tried to slow up for another car that was turning. His 2009 Volvo didn’t stop, traveled off the right side of the road, then hit a guardrail and a large tree stump.

Cave died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
