WASHINGTON, D.C. — FEMA has detailed the process for flood victims in central West Virginia to file for federal disaster relief funding.
President Trump approved West Virginia’s request for a federal disaster declaration in Upshur and Lewis counties after the devastating floodwaters on July 21. FEMA’s funding includes grants for temporary housing and home repair, along with other help to assist people and families impacted by the disaster.
FEMA advised people and families who experienced losses to file claims with their insurance providers first. After doing that, they can apply for help three different ways:
– online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov
– by calling 1-800-621-3362
– through the FEMA app
FEMA said those who use relay services such as video relay service (VRS) or captioned telephone service should give them the number for that service as well.
FEMA also announced it has named Mark O’Hanlon as Federal Coordinating Officer for the flood relief operations.
