Woman dies in Kanawha County apartment fire

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. — A 54-year-old woman died in an apartment fire early Thursday morning in Kanawha County.

Fire marshals said the blaze happened at the Rivermont Presbyterian Homes in Montgomery. The woman was the only person inside the apartment, investigators said, but other people at the scene inhaled some smoke and were treated.

According to initial investigation, the blaze may have started when the woman, using an oxygen tank, began smoking.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the fire.
