SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — CSX hopes to have its main track in South Charleston where a train derailed last Thursday reopened by Monday evening.
Seventeen cars on a grain train jumped the tracks along First Avenue at a little after 9:30 a.m. There’s no word on what caused the derailment.
A CSX spokesman says CSX crews had track number 2 through the area reopened by Friday evening and work was advancing Monday to get the main track reopened.
“Cleanup is ongoing and we anticipate wrapping the majority of that work by midweek. Safety remains our priority throughout,” CSX Director of Media Relations Austin Staton said.
It appears CSX is replacing several hundred feet of track in the area where the train derailed.
There were no injuries in the derailment.
