HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Witnesses testified about the internet searches made by a Cabell County man charged with murdering his infant daughter during the third day of his criminal trial.
Shannon Overstreet, 53, of Huntington, is accused of killing his three-month-old child, Angel, in 2021 and disposing her body on a Kentucky farm. He was indicted seven months after his infant daughter went missing in May of that year. He’s charged with death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian or other persons by child abuse, murder, and concealment of a human body.
FBI Digital Forensic Examiner Melinda Cash, who examined Overstreet’s internet search history, testified Wednesday in Cabell County Circuit Court that there were some noteworthy findings. Overstreet reportedly searched for passports, what to do if you don’t want your child, and water health issues with a baby.
West Virginia Child Protective Services (CPS) launched their search for Angel Overstreet in May five years ago. Several CPS workers also testified during the third day of the trial, including Sydney Mullins. Mullins said that when they checked in on Angel, Shannon Overstreet told them that a week before, Huntington CPS workers had taken her from his custody.
This stands in contrast to the prosecution’s allegations that Overstreet bought a barrel, a gas can, and firewood from a Rural King, which is shown on surveillance video, prior to disposing of his infant’s body.
The prosecution is scheduled to bring two more witnesses to the stand on Thursday.
