HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A 12-member Cabell County jury is recommending no mercy for convicted murderer Shannon Overstreet.
The jury heard testimony Monday in the mercy phase after finding Overstreet, 53, of Huntington, guilty Friday of killing his three-month-old daughter, Angel, in 2021.
Overstreet was found guilty of first-degree murder, child abuse causing death and concealing a dead body.
The jury’s no mercy determination means Overstreet will face life in prison with no chance for parole on the murder conviction.
Sentencing is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 9.
Overstreet killed his daughter in Cabell County and took her body to his Kentucky farm where he burned her body. Her remains were found in a barrel.
Overstreet testified in his own defense last Thursday claiming he found his daughter dead but didn’t kill her. He said the burning was his attempt to cremate his daughter.
It’s believed Angel died on May 4, 2021. She was reported missing later that month. Overstreet originally told CPS he had given his daughter up but there was no record of that.
Overstreet was indicted in connection with his Angel’s death in December 2023.
