MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University released the annual Clery Act report Monday detailing campus crime statistics.
WVU’s Public Safety Department is required to release the annual report as the act requires all colleges and universities that receive federal funding to disseminate every October 1st. The report must include statistics of campus crime for the preceding three calendar years, plus details about efforts taken to improve campus safety.
“Many people may not be fully aware of the extent of the work we do each day and night, but we are embedded in the University community, and committed to ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors,” WVU Police Department chief Sherry St. Clair said.
The report summarizes crime and fire safety from the WVU Morgantown Campus, Health Sciences divisions in Charleston and Eastern West Virginia, and the School of Nursing in Bridgeport.
The report said reports of rapes decreased from 20 in 2024 to 12 in 2025 and domestic violence, stalking, and motor vehicle thefts, remained very similar to figures from recent years.
Burglaries were up slightly from 25 reported in 2024 to 28 in 2025. Included in the numbers is one incident of unlawful entry that involved five living areas that accounted for a majority of the six recorded burglary incidents.
An overdose resulting in death of an individual not associated with the institution near Patteson Drive and Monongahela Boulevard that was investigated by the Morgantown Police Department.
For the first time the report includes hazing reports as part of the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act. The latest report shows three hazing reports involving student organizations.
