Less than seven months removed from its fourth state championship in boys basketball, the Chapmanville High School athletic department has received sanctions from the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission as a result of a recent investigation.
The governing body for West Virginia high school sports has placed the Chapmanville athletic department on probation for two years, while the boys basketball program has a probation period of three years.
According to a release from Logan County schools, during the applicable probationary periods, certain athletic transfers will be subject to WVSSAC review approval, and the boys basketball program faces restrictions pertaining to flex days over the next three years. Additionally, Chapmanville coaches are subject to additional WVSSAC rules and regulations training requirements.
Additionally, sanctions have been imposed upon Chapmanville boys basketball coaches, including a 365-day suspension to one assistant coach and a suspension to head coach Brad Napier that has been subject to appeal and is under further review through the WVSSAC appeal process.
WVSSAC proceedings are separate from the school district’s findings, which have yet to be finalized by Logan County Schools.
The Tigers defeated North Marion in the 2026 Class AAA title game, marking Chapmanville’s fourth state championship since 2018, all of which have been won under the direction of Napier.
