Virginia authorities still looking for man with West Virginia ties who walked away from work release unit

WINCHESTER, VA — A man with ties to West Virginia walked away from a Virginia jail work release, stole a car, and cut off his ankle monitor, according to the Frederick County (VA) Sheriff’s Office.

John Wesley Webb, 31, was last seen leaving the center in Winchester, Virginia Tuesday night.

Webb was on an ankle monitor which was last monitored at 2951 Valley Avenue, Motel 6, at 8:45 PM, the monitor had been removed. The clerk at Motel 6 told deputies that Webb had just left walking northbound.

Authorities said Webb stole a car early Friday morning with a West Virginia registration of FC7219 from Sheetz on Valley Avenue in Winchester and then headed south on Route 11.

Webb was seen wearing the green t-shirt and grey pants shown. Webb has ties to Rocky Gap, VA and Princeton, WV.
