Man indicted in Nitro Walmart parking lot murder

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County grand jury has handed up an indictment in connection with an April shooting death.

Eric Richmond

The panel recently indicted Eric Richmond, 54, of Charleston, on a first degree murder charge and two firearms charges.

Richmond is charged in the April 6 shooting death of his on-again, off-again girlfriend Misty Williams.

Williams, 40, of Dunbar, was killed while she was in car at the Nitro Walmart where she worked.

Investigators said Williams had gone on break but did not return. Coworkers found her slumped over inside her car. Investigators said she died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

“I believe they get a 20-minute break and she didn’t return, it had been over an hour,” Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jeremy Burns said at the time.

Richmond remains in jail without bail. He’ll be arraigned in the near future by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Dave Hardy where a trial date will be set.
