Jury selection set for Tuesday in case of Boone County grandmother charged in starvation death

MADISON, W.Va. — Jury selection will begin Tuesday in a highly publicized case in Boone County.

The trial of Donna Stone, the woman charged in the death of her 14-year-old granddaughter Kyneddi Miller, will begin later this week in Boone County Circuit Court. Stone is charged with murder by a parent, guardian or custodian by refusal or failure to provide necessities and child neglect resulting in death. Jury selection could take more than one day.

Deputies found Kyneddi in her Morrisvale home in April 2024, “emaciated to a skeletal state.”

Donna was supposed to go on trial two different times, March 17 and July 21, but those were rescheduled.

Kyneddi lived in the home with her mother, Julie Miller, and her grandparents Donna and Jerry.

Julie Miller, 51, pleaded guilty to death of a child by a parent by child abuse and was sentenced in February to 15 years to life in prison.

Jerry Stone was found incompetent to stand trial in August 2025 and has since been committed to a mental hospital.
