BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — A Bridgeport man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to an armed separatist group in Cameroon, federal prosecutors announced.
Didimus Kimbi, 37, also known as “Samba Ngala,” supported the Ambazonia Defense Forces for more than three years, according to his plea agreement.
Prosecutors said Kimbi provided financial support, helped facilitate weapons purchases and sent operational plans to the group’s leadership. The group sought to kill, kidnap, maim or injure people in Cameroon.
Kimbi faces up to 15 years in federal prison. His plea agreement includes a terrorism sentencing enhancement that could increase his penalty.
The FBI investigated the case, which was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia and the Justice Department’s National Security Division.
