CHARLESTON, W.Va. – An Ohio man will spend more than 30 years in West Virginia state prison for a fatal 2023 shooting in Charleston.
Dominick Curtis Gray, 40, of Columbus, OH, was sentenced by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Stephanie Abraham on four criminal counts connect with the shooting death of Charleston resident Beverly Hensley.
Gray pleaded guilty last month to a charge of voluntary manslaughter, as well as one count each of unlawful use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, unlawful wounding, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Abraham sentenced Gray to a combined term of 30 years for the manslaughter and firearms charges. He also faces an indeterminate 1- to 5-year sentence for the unlawful wounding.
Gray was initially indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in July 2024 for the shooting that occurred at a Lippert St. apartment on the day after Christmas in 2023. A probable cause hearing in 2024 revealed Hensley was shot five times and her nine-month-old daughter suffered a grazing wound.
Kanawha County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Gainer prosecuted the case.
