Charges in Oak Hill after fatal shooting

OAK HILL, W.Va. — An 18-year-old Oak Hill man has been charged with child neglect resulting in death following Tuesday’s fatal shooting of a juvenile in Fayette County.

Gabriel Osorio (WVRJA)

Police said Gabriel Osorio was arrested after a juvenile suffered a gunshot wound to the head inside a home on Third Street in Oak Hill.

According to a criminal complaint, Osorio told investigators he had invited three juveniles to the residence, where they began taking pictures with an AR-15-style rifle he owned.

Osorio claimed one of the juveniles later picked up the rifle, which discharged, striking another juvenile.

The victim was transported to Plateau Medical Center and later died. Several social media posts indicate the shooting victim had a connection to Oak Hill High School.

Investigators said the rifle’s ammunition had been stored in a locked box, but the key was accessible inside the bedroom.

Osorio is being held at Southern Regional Jail.

The shooting remains under investigation.
