Doc Holliday & Bob Pruett on Bill Stewart’s Passing

Marshall Head Football Coach Doc Holliday commented on the tragic passing of former WVU football coach Bill Stewart.
“Today is a sad day for the state of West Virginia and the West Virginia football program. My thoughts and prayers are with Coach Stewart’s family.”
Holliday served as associate head coach at WVU in 2007 and 2008 under Bill Stewart. He also served as recruiting coordinator for those two seasons.
Former Marshall Heard Coach Bobby Pruett told ESPN Radio 102.3 The Ticket in Beckley:
“I thought the world of him. He was one of the great guys and a credit to the coaching profession.”
Pruett coached with Stewart at VMI in the early 1980’s under Sonny Randle.
“There was no more quality, outstanding man than Billy Stewart,” said Pruett. “He was a forthright as they come.”
Randle spoke with Metronews affiliate WRVC in Huntington about his reaction once he heard the news.
“It was like somebody stuck a knife in my heart,” Randle said. “I don’t think I’ve ever met a more honest, loyal and hardworking man in my life.”
"Just being around him was a real special treat," said  Randle.
