Father charged after autopsy reveals head injury killed baby

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Police issued an arrest warrant Tuesday afternoon charging the father in connection with the April death of a 7-week-old boy.

Cassidy Byrd of Bluefield, W.Va., has been charged in the death of his 7-week-old son.

Police said 23-year-old Cassidy Byrd, of Bluefield, has been charged with child abuse resulting in death. Authorities were asking residents for help locating Byrd.

On April 5, the boy died en route to the hospital after Byrd called 911 from a home on Edgemont Drive claiming the child was having trouble breathing.

An autopsy conducted by the State Medical Examiner revealed the cause of death was a head injury.
