Deadly Mon County shooting may have been an accident

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– Preliminary information indicates the fatal shooting that claimed a Monongalia County teenager’s life may have been a tragic accident. Sheriff Al Kisner said that’s what the initial investigation into Friday’s shooting death of Colton Balasko has turned up.

“It only preliminarily appears that it may have been but we’re still investigating and the detectives are still gathering information,” Kisner told Morgantown A.M. on WAJR-AM.

Deputies found Balasko dead Friday night around 11:30 at a residence on Crosby Road in the Cheat Lake area. Kisner says there were four individuals, including the victim, present when the incident occurred.

“We have been talking with them, getting statements from them about what was going on and what happened to try to get a clearer picture of what happened,” explained Kisner.

Detectives are still compiling information to turn over to the prosecutor’s office to determine if any charges should be filed in the case.
