Body found in Guyandotte River in Wyoming County

BAILEYSVILLE, W.Va. — Wyoming County authorities worked to remove a body from the Guyandotte River Monday afternoon upstream of R.D. Bailey Lake.

“A motorist passing in the area of our shooting range on Route 97 spotted what he thought was a body in the water,” said R.D. Bailey Resource Manager Brian Morgan. “Deputies responded and spotted it floating down the river.”

The body became entangled in brush along the banks of the river in the Corps of Engineers’ Guyandotte Campground.  A strong current and high water complicated efforts to retrieve the body.

The body will be sent to the state Medical Examiner’s office for positive identification, but Morgan said there’s a strong suspicion the body may be that of Robert Lee Adams, 74, of Glover.  Adams was reported missing from his home back on May 11th and is the only  active missing persons case in Wyoming County.
