ANMOORE, W.Va. — The deck of a Harrison County bridge collapsed Tuesday causing the state Division of Highways to detour traffic.
Only one lane of the old bridge on the Philippi Pike close to Anmoore and the Baker Hughes facility, has been open in recent months because of a project to build a new bridge. The remaining lane of the old bridge is what collapsed, DOH spokesman Brent Walker said.
“We were fortunate enough that we have a bridge project there rehabbing that,” Walker said.
There were no injuries.
The new bridge is being built one lane at a time. Traffic was expected to be able to use the new lane of the bridge by late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
Walker doesn’t know exactly what caused the collapse but he has a pretty good guess, he said.
“We have weight limits on bridges for a reason,” he said.
The detour is U.S. Route 50 and I-79.
