WHEELING, W.Va. — A man died after being shot multiple times on Wheeling Island early Tuesday morning, police said.
Ahmid Salem Hinton, 41, of Wheeling, died at Ohio Valley Medical Center at around 5 a.m. The shooting was reported at around 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of S. Penn Street and Virginia Street.
According to police, the Hinton was able to tell them that the shooter got out of a vehicle and approached him, shooting him several times. The shooter then got back into the car and took off. Hinton told police he didn’t recognize the shooter.
The death is the first homicide in Wheeling in 2017.
