CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Secretary of State Mac Warner won a friendly wager on Marshall University’s bowl victory, resulting in a charitable donation.
And this weekend, Warner hopes to go two-for-two with a West Virginia University bowl win.
Warner went with Marshall this past weekend in a charitable gamble against Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams. The Thundering Herd defeated Colorado State, 31-28, on Saturday in the New Mexico Bowl.
For next week, Warner has a similar arrangement with the lieutenant governor of Utah. West Virginia University plays Utah on Tuesday in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
To make good on his wager over the Marshall game, Colorado’s Williams donated $50 to the Food Bank of the Rockies, writing on the receipt that the money came on behalf of Marshall.
“Just make that check out in honor of Marshall Thundering Herd. Send photos — you’ll be a hero in Huntington,” Warner said in a text message to Williams. “Then, even you can say, ‘We are all Marshall!’”
Warner, in turn, made a donation of $50 in the name of “Marshall University” to the St. Francis School Food Bank in the Kanawha Valley.
