Bluefield’s Mookie Collier, Truck Edwards land at Marshall, Pitt

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Two key pieces to Bluefield’s 2017 Class AA state championship football team have decided within the past week on D-I preferred walk-on spots with Marshall and Pitt.

Senior running back/defensive back Mookie Collier announced on Monday he will accept a preferred walk-on opportunity with Marshall, while senior running back/linebacker Truck Edwards a recently announced he would be doing the same at Pitt.

Both players will have opportunities to earn scholarships down the road.

Collier last season won the Kennedy Award and was also named the MetroNews High School Football Player of the Year.

The speedster averaged an incredible 14 yards per carry on the year, rushing for 2,237 yards and 33 touchdowns on 162 carries. He also caught eight passes for 191 yards, finishing with 39 total scores on the season.

Edwards rushed for 1,154 yards and 20 touchdowns on 160 carries, averaging 7.2 per carry. It was Edwards’ hard-fought touchdown run in the state championship game that went viral and landed on SportsCenter’s Top 10.
