CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — With a sterling defensive effort, Parkersburg Catholic extended their win streak to nine games, defeating Notre Dame 47-21 at Angelo Basile Court.
The Crusaderettes did not allow more than seven points in any quarter, sweeping the home-and-home season series with the Irish. PCHS won the first meeting, 53-42 on December 22nd.
Parkersburg Catholic jumped out to a 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and the Irish never brought the deficit down to single digits the rest of the way.
“I was concerned about a couple things.” said Parkersburg Catholic head coach Marty Vierheller. “One was their ability to shoot the ball from the outside and the other was their ability to get to the foul line. I knew if we didn’t take care of those two things, the potential was there for a long night.”
Madeline Huffman led the Crusaderettes with 14 points and Aaliyah Brunny added 13. Taylor Martino paced Notre Dame (11-5) with a 12-point effort.
The Crusaderettes, who carried a perfect record into last year’s state tournament, improved to 15-1. “I like where we are. The kids are really coachable. They work really, really hard and I am proud of them,” Vierheller said.
“This is a good win tonight. This is a really good team at Notre Dame.”
