Witnesses say shooting of Lewisburg teen was accidental

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — The wounding of a Greenbrier County teen, who is now on life support at a Charleston area hospital, was described as an accident by witnesses who spoke with investigators.

Edward Alexander Smith-Allen, 19, turned himself in to Lewisburg Police Saturday and was arraigned in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court on one count of wanton endangerment with a firearm. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

According to the criminal complaint, several people were sitting inside a parked car at Dorie Miller Park Friday, when Smith-Allen began pointing at the vehicle’s occupants. Multiple witnesses described Smith-Allen’s actions as “playing,” at the time the weapon discharged and wounded a female passenger.

The victim initially was taken to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, then transferred to a Charleston area hospital, where she was placed on life support, according to family members.

Her identity has not been disclosed.
