CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A fifth inmate has died in a West Virginia Regional Jail in less than a month.
The Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety reports Catherine Mae Moore died Thursday at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County. According to jail officials Moore suffered an undisclosed medical episode.
Moore had been booked into the lockup on Tuesday night and was in the holding area of the jail when the incident occurred.
Moore’s was the 5th death to happen in a West Virginia Regional Jail during the months of June and July.
The first death occurred on June 29 when Amanda Kessick was found unresponsive at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.
On June 30, Mark Anthony Wartenburg, of Scott Depot died at the South Central Regional Jail in Charleston.
The following day, Janson Davenport was found unresponsive in his cell at the North Central Regional Jail.
On July 8, Zachary Alexander Bailey died in the North Central Regional Jail after an apparent medical episode which authorities say may have been drug related.
Officials said no foul play is suspected in any of the incidents.
