Balanced attack leads Wheeling Central to win over Western Reserve

WHEELING, W.Va. — Curtis McGhee accounted for three total touchdowns to lead a balanced Wheeling Central Catholic offense as the Maroon Knights defeated Western Reserve (Ohio) 48-7 at Bishop Schmitt Field.

McGhee rushed for a 37 yard touchdown to open the scoring and found Jalen Creighton for a pair of scoring strikes in the second quarter.

Leading 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Maroon Knights allowed a Darius McKenzie 3-yard touchdown run to fall behind 7-6. Payton Marling broke loose on a 41-yard scoring tote to give Central a 13-7 lead. McGhee found Creighton on touchdown passes covering 40 and 6 yards to give the home team a 26-7 lead at halftime.

Jordan Waterhouse scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game well out of reach.

Wheeling Central (4-1) will face a difficult challenge in Week 6. Central will visit a Fort Frye (Ohio) team that is off to a 5-0 start.
