Charleston Urban Deer Hunt Successful

Thirty-two deer were killed in the City of Charleston’s fourth annual Urban Deer Hunt. The special season ends Dec. 31.

City Manager David Molgaard says last year 28 deer were harvested. He says the parcels allowed for the special bow hunting went from 11 to 15 this year.

Molgaard expects the harvest numbers to grow next year. He says the city is working with the DNR to allow hunters to kill more deer without it counting against their bag limits in the regular state deer seasons. Molgaard says there’s also discussion about extending the season.

The city manager says 32 deer may not seem like a lot, but there’s a multiplying effect when you consider each doe can produce up to two fawns.
