An official with the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition says the interest in local food products is always growing.
“The good news is the demand is huge these days,” Savanna Lyons said on Tuesday’s MetroNews Talkline. “Really what we need are farmers and ways to move products from producers to consumers.”
That was the focus of the “Road Map for the Food Economy” Conference which those with the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition hosted on Tuesday in Bridgeport.
A similar event was held last year.
“The Road Map for the Food Economy” is a statewide action plan designed to help local food producers get their products to the customers who can use them, whether those customers are businesses or individuals.
Lyons says, sometimes, farm to table is not an easy path.
“There’s a question about distribution, getting stuff packaged and pricing. There’s a lot of learning farmers are doing to meet this new demand,” she said.
The West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition is based in Oak Hill.
