WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The president and managing director for The Greenbrier Resort admits this week’s Greenbrier Classic is putting “America’s Resort” to the test.
“It tests the limits of a lot of things, that’s for sure,” said Jeff Kmiec. “The resort itself is filled to capacity with fans and players and sponsors and media, and it is performing flawlessly.”
This is the fourth year for the PGA Tour event at The Greenbrier Resort.
“We learn something every year. We improve every year and all the feedback I’m getting from the fans and the players and their families is it’s another home run,” Kmiec said.
Jennifer Stallings, the wife of 2011 Greenbrier champion Scott Stallings, is at the resort with the couple’s 4-month-old baby.
She said, for the most part, her husband leaves what happens on the course there. “He enjoys his job and he realizes that it’s a game,” she said.
Angie Watson, the wife of Bubba Watson, said her job is a supportive one. “For the most part, he leaves it on the golf course and, if there’s anything that he needs to talk about, he’ll talk about it with his caddy and his trainer,” she said.
“I’m there to listen, more than anything, because I don’t know too much.”
Both Stallings and Watson are part of the PGA Tour Wives Association, a group that works with charitable organizations across the United States.
“The tournament’s here for a week, but we hope that we can leave a lasting impression for the rest of the year,” said Stallings.
