Former Charlotte mayor reports to prison in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –– News reporters from Charlotte, N.C., were in Morgantown on Tuesday when the former mayor of the Queen City reported to serve his prison sentence.

According to CharlotteObserver.com, Patrick Cannon will serve a 44-month sentence at the Kennedy Prison following a corruption conviction.

Cannon was convicted for accepting illegal payments from FBI undercover agents and a Charlotte strip-club owner.

The 47-year-old Democrat, who pleaded guilty to pocketing more than $50,000 in illegal payments over a 13-month period ending in February, will be the first mayor in the Charlotte’s history to be imprisoned for a crime.
