CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston Police Chief Brent Webster has recommended discipline be taken against suspended Lt. Shawn Williams following an internal investigation.
“I’ve reviewed it thoroughly and I have made a recommendation of discipline to the conduct review board, which is made up of three police officers,” Webster said.
The chief would not release his recommendation but various media reports cited sources who said Webster wants Williams fired.
Lt. Williams was placed on administrative leave in September after some videos were discovered on his laptop. The videos allegedly had Williams’ daughter dressed like a police officer and making racially insensitive remarks.
Chief Webster said Wednesday the three-member conduct review board will hear his recommendation and from Lt. Williams at a Jan. 6 hearing.
“They will hear evidence…testimony and they will make a determination on whether they agree with my recommendation or overturn it,” Webster said.
Williams has the option to open the hearing to the public.
The board’s decision can be appealed to the police department’s civil service commission.
Williams, a 16-year veteran of the force, was Patrol Division commander when he was placed on administrative leave.
