Summit Point training center could close

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Summit Point Race Way in Jefferson County could face the closure of one of its facilities if a plan to build a similar facility in Virginia goes through.

The Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) facility has operated at the race way for more then 30 years.

A budget submission for Fiscal Year 2016 included development and construction of a federal FASTC training center in Virginia with a price tag of more than $400 million.

The training center in Summit Point operates as a contractor.

The Journal reports officials at Summit Point Raceway Associates, Inc. have made representatives in Washington aware of the situation, and are seeking support from local officials as well.
