CROSS LANES, W.Va. — A man charged with second degree murder will spend 20 years in prison.
Dustin Wayne Bodkins, 30, of Cross Lanes, pleaded guilty Monday to the charge and was sentenced in Kanawha County Circuit Court.
Bodkins was accused of shooting Timothy Morris of St. Albans to death in July 2014. Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Orchid Avenue in Cross Lanes where a shooting was reported by Bodkins’ ex-fiance Lindsey Winans.
According to the criminal complaint, Bodkins came to Winans’ home to pick up some medicine when he discovered Morris was inside the house. A fight broke out which then led to the shooting death of Morris. Bodkins had also allegedly threatened to shoot Winans.
Following the shooting, Bodkins became so angry at Morris that he kicked him as he was on the floor gushing blood, Winans told police.
In October 2014, Bodkins had pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges and wanton endangerment. As part of his current plea deal, the wanton endangerment charge was dropped and he pleaded guilty to second degree murder instead.
