Martinsburg man facing animal cruelty charges in fish death

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man faces animal cruelty charges after allegedly killing 14 pet fish during domestic incident on May 31.

Justin Phillips, 32, apparently killed the fish when he poured a gallon of bleach into the fish tank.

Police said the victim, who is Phillips’ wife, was “extremely distraught” over the death of the fish.

In addition to the death of the fish, police found that a hammer was used to destroy a piano in the home and a box containing several hundred family photographs.
