Information released on those who died in floodwaters

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Medical Examiner’s Office has released information on the 20 flood victims whose bodies have been found following the historic June 23 flood.

Twenty-three people were killed. The search continues for three of the victims in the White Sulphur Springs area.

Of the 20 victims recovered, 18 died by drowning. Eight of the 20 victims were older that 65. Seven of the victims were found in the floodwaters, two alongĀ  highways and nine in residences.

The names of only six of the 20 have been released by police, friends or family including:

Emanuel Williams, 8, of Ohio County, drowning victim; Bill Sanders, 62, of Kanawha County, drowning victim; Melissa Hess, 47, of Kanawha County, car accident victim; Edward McMillion, 4, of Jackson County, drowning victim; Joni Adams, of Kanawha County and Sandy Boswell of Kanawha County, both drowning victims.

The causes of death of 13 of the remaining 14 victims were all by drowning.
