Fairmont man faces life in prison after conviction of wife’s murder

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County jury convicted a Fairmont man Monday of killing his ex-wife after finding out she was getting remarried.

Jeffrey Lynn Hovatter faces life in prison after having been found guilty of first-degree murder in Nancy Shaw’s death.

Officials said Hovatter shot Shaw in her Fairmont home in July 2015. At some point, he also shot himself, but survived.

Testimony revealed Hovatter, who divorced Shaw in 2013, searched for her address and phone number after finding out she was getting remarried.

Hovatter will be sentenced at a later date.
