No. 1 Bridgeport prevails in sectional challenge over Elkins

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport’s quest for a fifth straight Class AA state title will continue after the Indians bounced back in a winner-take-all sectional championship game over Elkins 3-1 on Wednesday.

Brayden Lesher, who picked up a win over Elkins last week, threw a one-hitter in the final game Wednesday, striking out 10 for Bridgeport (23-10).

The decisive game became necessary after Elkins completed a 13-6 win in a game suspended from Tuesday with the Tigers leading 8-5 in the sixth.

Bridgeport moves on to face Lewis County (18-8) in a best-of-three regional series next week. Those teams split a doubleheader this season — a 13-8 win for Lewis County and 15-0 win for Bridgeport.
