Children removed from Nicholas County home after “extremely deplorable conditions” discovered

SUMMERSVILLE, W. Va. — A Nicholas County man faces child neglect charges after deputies found what were described as “extremely deplorable living conditions” inside his home.

Steven Dewayne Register, 27, of Summersville was arrested after authorities entered his residence, which reportedly was filled with garbage, animal waste, and insects.

Register’s two children, ages 3 and 7, were immediately removed from the home.

Their father is charged with child neglect creating the risk of serious bodily injury. He’s being held in the Central Regional Jail under a $2,500 bond.
