Public Safety Building Levy in Wheeling does not pass

WHEELING W.Va. — The Public Safety Building Levy has not passed in Wheeling.

100 percent of the city precincts have reported and the final tally was 53 percent Yes and 46 percent No.

In order to pass, the Public Safety Building Levy needed 60 percent.

The project would have cost roughly $22 million dollars and the proposed building would have housed the headquarters for both the Wheeling Police and Fire Departments

The levy was expected to cost a Wheeling homeowner $105 annually based on an average home value of $110,000 in the city. In addition, a vehicle valued at $20,000 would have cost its owner an extra $38.31 a year under the levy.
