PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Defending Class AAA state champion Parkersburg held Wheeling Park to single-digit point totals in each quarter to dominate the Patriots 63-31 in a matchup of the state’s top-ranked teams.
No. 1 Parkersburg (7-0) welcomed Bre Wilson back to the lineup for the first time this season. Wilson suffered a knee injury in the state semifinals back in March. She scored 12 points. The Big Reds were led by Aleea Crites, who scored a game-high 18 points. Shay Kirby added 14 points for PHS.
The Big Reds used an 11-0 run late in the first quarter to lead 18-8 after the first eight minutes. PHS opened the second half on a 16-1 run, building a 31-point lead late in the third quarter.
Bella Abernathy led No. 2 Wheeling Park (6-2) with 11 points.
“You want to learn from the game whether you win or lose,” said Parkersburg head coach Scott Cozzens. “We have some positives but we also had some negatives we are going to have to work on down the line to get better.”
