Off-roading bill no longer deals with off-roading

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Senate will vote Wednesday on a bill amending state code relating to off-road vehicle use, only the bill no longer deals with off-roading.

The Senate approved an amendment Tuesday striking the second half of the bill, which established an off-road vehicle recreation fund and directed the director of the state Division of Natural Resources to develop a plan for public roads where off-road vehicle recreation is allowed.

Sens. Bob Beach, D-Monongalia, and Paul Hardesty, D-Logan, introduced the provision over concerns about the effects on state parks and federal land.

The legislation would still require the Division of Highways to conduct mapping services of public roads.
