Frankfort’s Beeman nets 18 as North defeats South, 84-60

PLEASANT VALLEY, W.Va. — The North All-Stars led wire-to-wire and used strong runs at the beginning of each half to cruise to an 84-60 win in the annual North-South All-Star Girls Basketball Classic at East Fairmont High School.

The North opened the game on a 9-0 run and did the same to open the second half. A deep 3-pointer by Frankfort’s Abby Beeman gave the North a 12-2 lead just four minutes into the game. The South scored the final six points to close the opening frame, cutting their deficit to 19-13.

Early in the second quarter, Independence’s Lexi Bolen scored on putbacks on consecutive possessions to pull the South within five points at 22-17. Bolen scored 12 points.

But the South would not creep any closer the rest of the way. The North closed the first half on a 15-6 burst to take a 37-23 lead into the locker room. Fairmont Senior teammates Anysa Jordan and Courtney Wilfong scored 9 of the 15 points during the run. Jordan, an Eastern Kentucky University signee, scored 17 points.

The North extended their lead to 19 points, 57-38 at the end of three quarters.

Beeman, a Shepherd signee, led all scorers with 18 points and was named the MVP for the North. Woodrow Wilson’s Laken Ball was the South MVP. She scored 13 points. Parkersburg South’s Sierra Hays was the only other player to score in double figures. She had ten points for the North.
