Deadly shooting under investigation in Mercer County

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — A deadly shooting is under investigation in Mercer County.

According to authorities, a man was shot and killed at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday near Stoney Ridge Road outside of Bluefield. The victim was later identified as Joshua Rasnick.

Timothy Paul Hager, 22, of Bluefield, is charged with second-degree murder. Mercer County Sheriff’s deputies said Hager used an AK-47.

Rasnick’s girlfriend called police about the shooting. West Virginia State Police troopers found Hager in the woods, and he was taken into custody on unrelated charges.

Hager is accused of battery of an officer, obstruction and fleeing on foot. He is on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
