Harrison sheriff: Deadly shooting part of domestic dispute

QUIET DELL, W.Va. — Detectives in Harrison County are piecing together exactly what happened Thursday night in Quiet Dell, about 20 miles southeast of Clarksburg.

Richard Booth

Sheriff Robert Matheny said the shooting around 7 p.m.

“It was a domestic-related shooting, the male subject shot a male that was known to him. The subject that was shot died on scene,” Matheny said Friday.

Richard Booth, 65, of Quiet Dell, was arrested at the scene and charged with first degree murder, according Matheny.

It’s alleged Booth shot and killed Joseph Frye, 28, of Mount Clare, while Frye was standing in Booth’s driveway. Detectives believe Booth was in a wooded area when he fired the fatal shot.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is being assisted by the West Virginia State Police.

Booth is lodged in the North Central Regional Jail without bail.
