PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Ty Moore found the end zone four times in the second half as Williamstown pulled away from Parkersburg Catholic on a rainy Saturday night at Stadium Field, 45-14.
The Yellowjackets (8-1) have won eight consecutive games since dropping their season opener to defending state champion Wheeling Central Catholic. The Crusaders (5-4) have dropped two in a row and will likely need to defeat Webster County next week to advance to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Williamstown jumped out to a 17-8 halftime lead courtesy of a pair of touchdown runs from Brayden Modesitt. Jeb Boice brought the Crusaders within three points early in the third quarter, scoring on an eight-yard run. But Moore would break off touchdown runs of 63, 15, 19 and 13 yards in the second half as the Yellowjackets scored the final 28 points of the game.
“That’s why you play four quarters,” said Williamstown head coach Terry Smith. “We couldn’t seem to get out of our way early but it worked out.”
Kole Sutton intercepted a pair of passes for the Yellowjackets. They have allowed fourteen points or less in six of their eight games.
Williamstown will conclude their regular season in Week 10, hosting Doddridge County. The winning team will have an inside track on the top seed in the Class A playoffs.
“We’ve got our work cut out for us for sure,” Smith said. “I know we will have a good week of practice and hopefully we will be able to step up.
